Description The Advanced Product Development (APD) / Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) Engineer is a multi-disciplined role within the Carlex organization responsible for the simulation, design, and development of various automotive glazing systems. This can include head up display (HUD), transmitted and reflective distortion analysis, confirming compliance to camera systems and other FEA type simulations. The Advanced Product portion is comprised of working on HUD and optical related advanced development projects, advanced quoting, technical marketing at the OEM customer level, supplier development in association with Supply Chain Management, and supporting prototype builds and testing activities. This role is a key customer interface on all related topics. After a tailored on the job training, the APD/CAE Engineer will be positioned to contribute directly to the advanced preparation and strategy building for Carlex's future. Key focus on innovation and establishing customer and supplier relationships while supporting the organization with technical know-how.
KEY TASKS Simulation, design, and development of head up display (HUD) systems utilizing Optis Speos software.Simulation and analysis of customer 3D data for transmitted and reflective optics compliance.Simulation and analysis of camera related systems.Direct customer interface on all optical designs and developments.Support Carlex feasibility and quoting process utilizing appropriate CAD tools for technical information.Advanced project engineering of advanced HUD and optical related technologies.Visit new and established suppliers looking for advances in new technology, status of existing product, opportunities for cost saving, and current capabilities.Manage open actions resulting from supplier relatedParticipate in RFQ preparation for new and advanced productSupport the Sales and Program Management teams both internally and at the customer with product and technical know-how to influence the design specification and styling.Prepare and present internal and customer technical presentations on various glazing relatedManage advanced product prototype samples, part builds and validation, including follow up at the supplier and/or customer level and inside/outside test facilities.Provide supplier engineering, development, and qualification support to the Supply Chain Management team on advanced and current products.General benchmarking and reporting from reverse engineering of existing products.Monitor the automotive glazing market and customer feedback. Use this information to understand and identify new product opportunities.Advanced product related on-site support at Carlex plants.Assist to establish the Carlex brand, product names and trademarks.REQUIREMENTS Education:
Bachelor's degree in Optics and CAE Engineering or equivalent preferred orBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with related experience in CAE and opticOther Requirements:
3+ years of experience utilizing optical simulation and FEA software. Optic Speos experience a plus.3+ years of experience in automotive product design using CATIA CAD tools.Previous experience with major automotive OEM's (i.e., Audi, Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Daimler) preferred.Business travel (some international) up to 35% with valid driver's license required.Regular and predictable attendance required.Cooperate within teams to carry out tasks and responsibilities.Overtime may be required as workload or projects dictate, including weekends and holidays.Ability to learn and follow procedures while working safely in a manufacturing environment.KEY COMPETENCIES Advanced/Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, and PowerPointAdvanced/Intermediate skill level with CATIA, UG and TCe.Ability to multitask with a sense of urgency to meetAdvanced/Intermediate experience with industry drafting and CAD standards.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.Advanced/Hands on approach to problem solving and analysis.Working knowledge of customer testing and performance specificationsGood negotiation skills with the ability to positively influence other team members.Hands-on approach to problem solving andExcellent Analytical SkillsAbility and willingness to uphold the Carlex values of safety, accountability, results oriented, teamwork, customer focused, excellence, integrity, and trust.#J-18808-Ljbffr
