The Role: Senior Mine Geologist (Maules Creek , NSW)
An outstanding opportunity has become available for a Senior Mine Geologist to join our Technical Services team at our Maules Creek mine. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, this role will focus on optimising the value of Whitehaven’s coal resources through the collection, interpretation and distribution of geological data and provision of geological advice.
As the Senior Mine Geologist, you will be responsible for the facets of Pit Geology, Coal Quality and Geotechnical:
Be responsible for the daily coal quality controls to support maximum coal recovery
Be responsible for the coal reconciliation process to track coal recovery to the mine plan. Identify the potential causes for coal loss and dilution and improve the coal recovery standard
Develop and update the operational coal mining handbook
Responsible for the update of the short term geological model while liaising with corporate team resource geologists
Provide guidance to Logistics and Coal Preparation Plant on coal delivery and quality parameters.
Lead a team of coal quality and geology professionals to maximise value of the resource
Provide Geotechnical leadership and advice to mine production teams to ensure compliance with the ground or strata control management plan
Ensure Geotechnical hazards are identified and appropriate controls communicated to through to the relevant stakeholders
Skills and Experience Essential Criteria:
Tertiary qualifications in Geology / Geotechnical
High proficiency in the interpretation and analysis of coal quality data.
Excellent communication and time management skills.
A focus on attention to detail.
Results focused, highly motivated with a continuous improvement attitude and responsive to safety issues.
Proficiency in database management.
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in coal reconciliation, coal recovery, loss and dilution.
Experience with Vulcan Software, geo bank
Experience with resource modelling
Previous experience in a coal quality scheduling role would be advantageous
Experience with JORC reporting and exploration geology would be advantageous
Previous experience managing exploration programs and budgeting
Previous experience managing coal quality programs
Previous experience in a pit geotechnical role
Minimum of 5 years experience in open cut coal mining
